Commentary

Hariharānanda Bhāratī’s Sanskrit commentary, translated

Then the deśika, the practitioner, having given five handfuls of flowers with the root mantra on the Goddess's uttamāṅga (the head), the heart, the base (ādhāra), the feet and all her limbs, should pray to the chosen deity with joined palms. What he should pray, he says in half a verse, "tava…": having said "tavāvaraṇadevān" he should say the words "pūjayāmi namaḥ". Joined, the words of the prayer are "iṣṭadevate tavāvaraṇadevān pūjayāmi namaḥ" ("O chosen deity, I worship the deities that surround you; salutation"). (Covers verses 95 and 96.)
