Commentary

Hariharānanda Bhāratī’s Sanskrit commentary, translated

Then, after that, he should offer, give, one bali by the rule to Śivā, the jackal (pherukārikā). He gives the mantra of the bali to Śivā in a verse and a half, "gṛhṇa…". Having said "gṛhṇa devi mahābhāge" and the rest, he should say the root mantra; then, having said "eṣa baliḥ", he should then also say "śivāyai namaḥ". Joining all the words, the mantra is "gṛhṇa devi mahābhāge śive kālāgnirūpiṇi śubhāśubhaphalaṁ vyaktaṁ brūhi gṛhṇa baliṁ tava hrīṁ śrīṁ krīṁ parameśvari svāhā eṣa baliḥ śivāyai namaḥ"; with it he should give bali to Śivā.
