Learn with us

Practise tantra yoga in Nepal and beyond

The texts are the foundation; practice is learned from a teacher, together with others on the same path.

  • Classes and courses

Learn the practices of tantra yoga step by step: mantra, breath, meditation and the correct recitation of Sanskrit.

  • Sādhanā, retreats and festivals

Practise together through the sacred year: Navarātri sādhanā, festival recitations and retreats.

  • Guidance from a guru

Tantra is passed from teacher to student. Seekers can ask for personal guidance in the practice, in the tradition of guru and śiṣya.

Questions

Tantra yoga, simply answered

What seekers most often ask us about the path, about Nepal, and about where to begin.

What is tantra yoga?

Tantra yoga is a path of practice that sees the world as the play of Śiva and Śakti, consciousness and its power, and uses everything in experience as a means of awakening. Its methods are mantra, yantra, breath, meditation and devotion, guided by the sacred texts and by a teacher.

Is tantra yoga part of the tradition in Nepal?

Yes. The Kathmandu valley has kept the worship of Śiva and Śakti alive for centuries, in its temples, its festivals such as Dashain (Navarātri), and its lineages of practice. Tantra Yoga Vidya is based in Kathmandu.

Do I need a guru to practise tantra yoga?

The deeper practices of tantra are traditionally received from a guru. Recitation of the hymns, study of the texts and simple daily practice can be begun by anyone with sincerity, and a teacher can guide what follows.

Where should a beginner start?

With a short daily recitation and its meaning: the Kṣamā Prārthanā or the thirty-two names of Durgā take five minutes, and every verse here has its transliteration, word-by-word meaning and translation.

Do you offer classes, sādhanā or retreats?

Yes: classes and courses, group sādhanā and festival practice, and personal guidance. Write to us by email or WhatsApp to ask what is running now and how to join.

Are the sacred texts free to read?

Yes. Every text and article on the site is free, with no account needed.
