Commentary
Hariharānanda Bhāratī’s Sanskrit commentary, translated
On the left part of the ghee he should meditate on the nāḍī iḍā; on the right part on the nāḍī piṅgalā; and in the middle, having thought of the nāḍī suṣumnā, attentive, taking ghee from the right part, the wise practitioner should offer it into the right eye of the fire, the eater of oblations, with the mantra given next. He gives the mantra of the offering into the right eye, "praṇavānte…": after the praṇava the word "agnaye" is to be said. Joined, the mantra "oṁ agnaye" is formed, and this mantra is said to end in svāhā ("oṁ agnaye svāhā"). Then from the left part he should take, draw up, the ghee to be offered; having taken the oblation, he should offer it into the left eye of the fire with the mantra given next. He gives the mantra of the offering into the left eye: "oṁ somāya dviṭhaḥ", that is, the mantra "oṁ somāya svāhā" is declared. (This explanation covers verses 151 to 153.)
