Meaning

Pārvatī's recollection lists, in order, what the two previous chapters taught: the duties on rising (prātaḥkṛtya), the ritual bath, the twilight rite (sandhyā), the purifying of saṃvid, the hemp (bhaṅgā) that some Kaula rites use, then the placing of mantras on the body (nyāsa) and the worship itself. Worship is "outer and inner" (bāhya-ābhyantara): the Goddess is worshipped with offerings in front of one, and inwardly in the mind, and the text treats the inner as the higher. The list reminds the reader how much ground has been covered: the hymn and armour now asked for are the last pieces of a complete daily discipline.
