Meaning

Kālarātri, the Night of Time, the night of dissolution at the end of a world-age. Kāmarūpā: she who takes any form at will. Kāmapāśavimocanī: she who frees from the noose (pāśa) of desire. Kādambinī: a bank of rain clouds, dark and life-giving. Kalādhārā: the support of all arts and digits. Kalikalmaṣanāśinī: she who destroys the impurity of the Kali age. Notice the pairing: she who is desire's own form (kāmarūpā) is also she who frees from desire's bonds. The Tantra does not set desire and liberation against each other; both belong to her.
