सन्ध्याविधिःThe rule of the sandhyā

Verse 82

श्रीदेव्युवाच । विप्रादिसर्ववर्णानां विहिता तान्त्रिकी क्रिया । त्वयैव कथिता नाथ सम्प्राप्ते प्रबले कलौ ॥ ८२ ॥

śrīdēvyuvāca | viprādisarvavarṇānāṁ vihitā tāntrikī kriyā | tvayaiva kathitā nātha samprāptē prabalē kalau || 82 ||

Translation

The Goddess said: For all the classes beginning with the brāhmaṇa the Tantric rite is prescribed: you yourself said so, Lord, now that the strong Kali age has come.

Meaning

Pārvatī notices an inconsistency, as the commentary explains: earlier Śiva said that in the strong Kali age all classes have the right only to Tantric rites (verses 9 to 13), yet now he gives the first three classes the Vedic sandhyā as well.

Commentary

Hariharānanda Bhāratī’s Sanskrit commentary, translated

Earlier Śrī Sadāśiva said that in the strong Kali age all the varṇas beginning with the brāhmaṇa have the right only to Tantric rites; but now it is said that brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas and vaiśyas have the right to the Vedic sandhyā as well. Thinking this inconsistent, Śrī Devī spoke, beginning "viprādi…".
