गृहस्थकर्त्तव्यानिThe duties of the householder

Verse 59

अवस्थानुगताश्चेष्टाः समयानुगताः क्रियाः । तस्मादवस्थां समयं वीक्ष्य कर्म समाचरेत् ॥ ५९ ॥

avasthānugatāścēṣṭāḥ samayānugatāḥ kriyāḥ | tasmādavasthāṁ samayaṁ vīkṣya karma samācarēt || 59 ||

Translation

Conduct follows one's circumstances, rites follow the time; therefore, seeing his circumstances and the time, he should act.

Meaning

A principle of discernment: the right action depends on one's situation (avasthā) and on the occasion (samaya). The Tantra, which reshapes the old dharma for the Kali age, applies the same principle to each person's life.
