Meaning
A detail of realism among the splendour: the sages are so crowded together that their deerskin garments are crumpled (duḥsaṃsthāna) by rubbing (parāmarśa) against each other. Their rosaries of rudrākṣa, the commentary says, swing as they move, and they hold their water-pots (kamaṇḍalu). These are the simple possessions of renunciants. The heavenly company is, after all, a crowd of ascetics in a hurry to hear. The reader may enjoy the human touch: even the sages jostle.
