Meaning
Rāma has shown the hollowness of the objects, of fortune, of the body and of every age of life. Now, the commentary says, he lays the ground for the discrimination of the lasting and the passing, by describing Time, the power that takes everything. He begins with the cause of the delusion: people of small understanding talk endlessly, "this is mine to enjoy, I am its enjoyer, I will have it long", and divide the world into friend and enemy, to be taken and to be avoided. By these distinctions (bheda) the confusion has been made firm. The reader may listen to their own inner talk and hear how it builds the walls of the world they then live in.
