Meaning

A second salutation opens the teaching proper, as a work is blessed at its beginning, middle and end. The commentary reads the places named in several ways: as the upper and lower halves of the cosmic egg and the space between, or as the states of waking, dream and deep sleep. In each the one consciousness (avabhāsa, "shining") appears in many forms while remaining itself.
