Meaning
Verses 15 to 17 describe the variety of the gathering, and the commentary reads them as "some ... others". Staffs of bamboo, the mark of the renunciant; lotuses held in play; dūrvā grass, sacred in worship, tucked into the topknot; crest-jewels, the ornaments of kings. Ascetics and princes, sages of the forest and lords of heaven, are all mixed. The reader may notice that the gathering does not ask anyone to change their dress to belong.
