Meaning
Future births lie hidden in vāsanā as the sprout lies hidden in a seed, waiting for time, water and soil. Knowledge of the truth burns the field of ignorance, and the sprout can no longer come up. What is left is like a roasted seed: it still has the shape of a seed but cannot grow. Bound only by the karma that has already begun to bear fruit (prārabdha), it serves no purpose but to keep the body going until that karma is spent.
