Meaning
The list begins at the top of the hall: the two great sages, Vasiṣṭha the family preceptor and Viśvāmitra who came to ask for Rāma, with the other munis; then the king's counsellors, Jayanta and Dhṛṣṭi, named in the Rāmāyaṇa among Daśaratha's eight ministers. That the wise and the worldly both listened is the point: the sages heard their own teaching from a boy's mouth, and the statesmen heard a critique of everything statecraft pursues. The reader may notice that a truth spoken simply reaches very different people at once.
