Meaning
The heavens respond as they do in the epics when something great is done: a rain of flowers (puṣpa-vṛṣṭi). It is dense enough to look like an awning (vitānaka) across the sky. It falls with voices saying sādhu, "well done, well said" (sādhuvāda), which give the sarga its name. The commentary adds that the Siddhas and Gandharvas who showered the flowers were themselves seekers of liberation (mumukṣu). The reader may notice that the praise is not for a deed of arms or a sacrifice but for a question honestly asked.
