Verse 6
सूर्येन्द्राग्न्यनिलेन्दूनां यमस्य वरुणस्य च। अन्येषां चाधिकारान् स स्वयमेवाधितिष्ठति ॥ ६ ॥
sūryēndrāgnyanilēndūnāṁ yamasya varuṇasya ca | anyēṣāṁ cādhikārān sa svayamēvādhitiṣṭhati || 6 ||
Translation
'He himself now occupies the jurisdictions of Sūrya, Indra, Agni, Anila, Indu, Yama, Varuṇa, and others.'

Meaning
The Devas specify the extent of Mahishasura's usurpation. He has not just taken Indra's throne but has arrogated to himself the cosmic functions of all the major deities: the sun, fire, wind, moon, death, and water. This highlights the complete disintegration of the natural and moral order (dharma).
