Meaning
Gambling, quarrels, lust and the rest, the commentary says: the faults of youth destroy the one whose heart is shaped like them; and they are wicked only "by him", because he gives them life. A fault does not destroy anyone from outside. It has power only through the one who takes its shape. The reader is offered a way of seeing their faults: not as enemies that attack, but as shapes the mind takes on, and can put off.
