Meaning

Śiva too. A certain embodied being, "his form embraced by his beloved" (lalanā-valita-ākṛti), Śiva as Ardhanārīśvara, half of whose body is his consort, became the one crowned with the crescent moon. The commentary: by his own effort some embodied being became Ardhanārīśvara and attained the state of Candraśekhara. With Indra, Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Śiva, the list covers the whole pantheon. Nothing above the seeker is out of reach of effort.
