Meaning
Two things work together. Discrimination (viveka) sees the difference between what lasts and what passes; pleasures losing their taste (bhoga-nīrasa) is the feeling side of the same seeing. Rāma reflected "by myself" (svayam): no teacher had yet spoken. The insight that begins the path is one's own; a teacher can only meet it.
