Meaning

The verse is in a longer metre. A wild elephant in chains cannot rest; it strains and paces. So Rāma's mind, bound to the thought of a world whose every cause is fragile (bhaṅgura), cannot settle. The verse states his condition exactly: he has seen enough to be unable to rest in the world, and not yet enough to rest beyond it.
