Chapter 3 · Tṛtīyo’dhyāyaḥ (Third Chapter)
Verse 1–2
ॐ ऋषिरुवाच ॥ १ ॥ निहन्यमानं तत्सैन्यमवलोक्य महासुरः। सेनानीश्चिक्षुरः कोपाद्ययौ योद्धुमथाम्बिकाम् ॥ २ ॥
ōṁ ṛṣiruvāca || 1 || nihanyamānaṁ tatsainyamavalōkya mahāsuraḥ | sēnānīścikṣuraḥ kōpādyayau yōddhumathāmbikām || 2 ||
Translation
The sage said: 'Then, the great demon (Mahishasura), seeing that army being slain, sent his general Chikshura, who went out of anger to fight Ambika.'

Meaning
With his vast army being decimated, the demon king Mahishasura is forced to deploy his top commanders. The first to be sent is Chikshura, one of his most powerful generals, who advances toward the Goddess (Ambikā) in a rage.
