Translation
To the Goddess who in all beings is called the Māyā of Viṣṇu: salutation to her, salutation to her, salutation to her, salutation again and again.
Word by word
- yā dēvī
- the Goddess who
- sarvabhūtēṣu
- in all beings
- viṣṇumāyā iti
- as the Māyā of Viṣṇu
- śabditā
- is called
- namaḥ tasyai
- salutation to her
- namō namaḥ
- salutation again and again
Meaning
Here begins the great refrain. Each verse names one way the Goddess is present in every being, and the salutation is said three times and then once more. First she is Viṣṇu’s Māyā, the power that veils and projects the world, and that held Viṣṇu himself in sleep in the first chapter.
