प्रणिपत्य महाभागं तमृषिं शंसितव्रतम्। निर्विण्णोऽतिममत्वेन राज्यापहरणेन च ॥ ८ ॥

praṇipatya mahābhāgaṁ tamṛṣiṁ śaṁsitavratam | nirviṇṇō’timamatvēna rājyāpaharaṇēna ca || 8 ||

Translation

Having prostrated to that greatly fortunate sage of praised vows, distressed by excessive attachment and the loss of his kingdom,

Meaning

King Suratha, overwhelmed by attachment to worldly possessions and grief over losing his kingdom, bows to the sage Mārkaṇḍēya, who is renowned for his virtuous practices, seeking guidance.
