Verse 16–17
मार्कण्डेय उवाच ॥ १६ ॥ ततो वव्रे नृपो राज्यमविभ्रंश्यन्यजन्मनि। अत्रैव च निजं राज्यं हतशत्रुबलं बलात् ॥ १७ ॥
mārkaṇḍēya uvāca || 16 || tatō vavrē nṛpō rājyamavibhraṁśyanyajanmani | atraiva ca nijaṁ rājyaṁ hataśatrubalaṁ balāt || 17 ||
Translation
Mārkaṇḍēya said: Then the king chose an imperishable kingdom in another birth, and here itself his own kingdom with enemies’ forces destroyed by force.

Meaning
The sage Mārkaṇḍēya continues the narration, addressing the boons requested by King Suratha and the merchant Samādhi from the Goddess Caṇḍikā. King Suratha requests two boons from the Goddess: an imperishable kingdom in his next life and the restoration of his own kingdom in this life by defeating his enemies’ forces.
