Verse 12–13
ऋषिरुवाच ॥ १२ ॥ इत्युक्तः सोऽभ्यधावत्तामसुरो धूम्रलोचनः। हुंकारेणैव तं भस्म सा चकाराम्बिका ततः ॥ १३ ॥
ṛṣiruvāca || 12 || ityuktaḥ sō’bhyadhāvattāmasurō dhūmralōcanaḥ | huṁkārēṇaiva taṁ bhasma sā cakārāmbikā tataḥ || 13 ||
Translation
The sage said: Thus addressed, that demon Dhūmralochana rushed towards her. Then Ambika, with a mere hum sound, reduced him to ashes.

Meaning
After Ambika’s defiant response, Dhūmralochana aggressively charges at her. With a single powerful hum (huṁkāra), Ambika instantly incinerates him, demonstrating her divine power and fulfilling the chapter’s title, ‘The Slaying of Dhūmralochana.’ The ease of her victory underscores the futility of the demon’s hubris.
