Verse 40
इत्येतत्कथितं भूप सम्भूता सा यथा पुरा। देवी देवशरीरेभ्यो जगत्त्रयहितैषिणी ॥ ४० ॥
ityētatkathitaṁ bhūpa sambhūtā sā yathā purā | dēvī dēvaśarīrēbhyō jagattrayahitaiṣiṇī || 40 ||
Translation
O King, thus it has been told to you how she, the Goddess, the well-wisher of the three worlds, originally emerged from the bodies of the gods.

Meaning
The sage Markandeya concludes his narration to King Suratha about the first origin of the Goddess. She manifested from the combined energies (tejas) of all the gods for the benevolent purpose of protecting the three worlds.
