Verse 1
मार्कण्डेय उवाच ॐ विशुद्धज्ञानदेहाय त्रिवेदीदिव्यचक्षुषे। श्रेयःप्राप्तिनिमित्ताय नमः सोमार्धधारिणे॥
mārkaṇḍēya uvāca ōṁ viśuddhajñānadēhāya trivēdīdivyacakṣuṣē। śrēyaḥprāptinimittāya namaḥ sōmārdhadhāriṇē॥
Translation
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Om, salutations to the one with a body of pure knowledge, knower of the three Vedas, with divine vision, for the sake of attaining welfare, to the one bearing the half-moon (Shiva).
