Meaning

This seventh and final core verse of Saptashloki Durga invokes Goddess Durga as akhilēśvari, the supreme ruler of all, who pacifies all obstacles (sarvābādha-praśamanaṁ) across the three worlds (trailōkyasya). The verse is a direct prayer, requesting her to destroy the enemies (asmad-vairi-vināśanam) of her devotees, both external and internal (e.g., ignorance, ego). The use of ēvam ēva emphasizes the certainty and immediacy of her action. In the Shakta tradition, particularly within the Durga Saptashati, this verse encapsulates Durga’s role as the ultimate protector who removes all hindrances and vanquishes adversities in the Kali Yuga. It concludes the hymn with a powerful appeal for her intervention, reinforcing the theme of divine protection introduced in earlier verses. The colophon (svasti śrī-saptaślōkī durgā) marks the auspicious completion of the hymn, invoking blessings for its recitation. This verse is often recited for victory over obstacles and enemies, making it a cornerstone of devotional practices like Navaratri.
